Leeds-based Fraser Projects had only six weeks to transform an empty campus building into a modern science facility for students, before they returned for the start of term…
Lancaster University is a prominent name in the world of higher education. Constantly looking to improve the student experience, the University decided to invest in a new science building on campus.
Determined to ensure no disruption to the academic year, works to fit out the state-of-the-art facility were scheduled for the summer break. But relocating the department to new premises, in only six weeks, would prove no easy task. Expert assistance was required…
With vast experience in the education sector, Leeds-based Fraser Projects won the contract via competitive tender. A multi-disciplined 12-strong team was then deployed to complete the turnkey fit out of this new facility. Works comprised the erection of partition walls; installation of suspended ceilings and flooring; bespoke joinery, including the fabrication of custom-made doors and Trespa workspaces; decoration and industrial cleaning.
As the University’s needs evolved, Fraser Projects worked considerately around new project developments and even provided design consultancy advice to recommend the most effective positioning of key partition walls.
On site at the same time as other subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers, Fraser Projects ensured the safe and well-timed coordination of works. What should have been an eight week contract was completed in a six week timeframe, to ensure students could return to a fully functional new facility before the start of the academic year.
As a result, Lancaster University is now home to a modern science building including two lecture theatres, three offices, store room, canteen and safety floor.
Holiday periods are a fantastic time to carry out refurbishment and new fit out works in the educational sector, because they can be scheduled to ensure no adverse impact on students’ learning.
There was a lot to do in this six week period but teamwork and experience meant Fraser Projects completed the contract on time, to budget, and, most importantly, to the satisfaction of the client.
